Be Yourself

” The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves. And you have to be strong enough to say if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it. “

Tuesdays with Morrie — by Mitch Albom

I turned off my wechat moments last year, which didn’t cause any negative effects on my life. On the contrary, I focused more on myself, having more time reading, jogging. It felt so good.

Nowadays we’re bombarded by all kinds of news, celebrities, commercials etc.. We’re so get used to it that we don’t even think about it. Why am I reading this stuff? Will this make my life better? Why should I spend time caring about people I don’t know? Yes, there are all kinds of social media, apps, websites, but it doesn’t mean we have to take them all in. And also, that most people do it doesn’t mean it’s right.

When I came across what Morrie said to Mitch, as in the quote, I looked around on the subway, seeing most people were watching their cellphone, tiktok videos, celcebrity gossip…

What I’m trying to say is, if the circumstance we have doesn’t make you feel so good, you don’t have to change it cuz you can’t. Changing yourself would be a wise choice. And once you decide to be different, be strong, be tough, and be yourself.
